Troubleshooting
Common problems, grouped by product and feature.
Pro: chat
”Unauthorized” when sending a message
The chat endpoint needs a valid session.
- Profile → Sign Out.
- Sign back in (email / password or Google).
- Try again.
If it still fails, clear the webview cache (Settings → Clear Sessions) and sign in again.
Chat panel is blank / white
The embedded webview failed to load.
- Web Browser plugin is enabled in Edit → Plugins.
app.nwiro.aiis reachable from your network (some corporate VPNs block custom subdomains).- Close and re-open the Nwiro panel from the Window menu.
”Insufficient balance”
You’re out of credits.
- Top up from Profile → Credits → Add Balance.
- Subscribe to a monthly plan from Profile → Subscription.
- Invite friends via the referral link for free credits.
Vision (image paste) isn’t working
Not every model supports vision. Switch the header dropdown to Opus / Sonnet / GPT-5 / Gemini; those handle images.
Cost looks wrong
The header shows cumulative cost; hover the number for per-turn breakdown. If it seems genuinely off, paste the turn id (in the tool card footer) into Profile → Feedback.
Integration Kit: integrations
No AI tool activated
If the Kit panel says “No integration active”:
- Open Settings → Integrations.
- For Claude, install Claude Code and click Download for its adapter. For Codex, click Install if no supported runtime is detected.
- When the integration is ready, click Activate.
On Windows, the Kit can reuse supported system installations. For Codex, an equal or newer compatible global official runtime is reused unchanged. An older compatible global runtime remains usable and offers the optional Install Nwiro-managed runtime action. macOS follows the same rules.
Adapter download / Codex managed install hangs
- Claude adapter: check access to the adapter’s official GitHub release. Behind a corporate proxy, install Claude Code using your IT-approved method and allow the adapter download.
- Codex on Windows and macOS: check that Node.js 20+ and npm are detected and that npm can reach its registry. A compatible global official runtime supplied by your organization is reused without modification.
- Antivirus can block archive extraction or Node.js child processes. Follow your organization’s allow-list policy if the Integration card reports an installation error.
Activated but chat doesn’t do anything
- The AI tool wasn’t restarted after activation. Deactivate and Activate again from Settings.
- The activated CLI didn’t sign in yet. Open its own config / first-run and complete auth.
Where to find the editor log
Support will usually ask for the Unreal Editor log. Its location depends on the platform:
- Windows:
<Project>/Saved/Logs/<Project>.log - macOS:
~/Library/Logs/Unreal Engine/<Project>Editor/<Project>.log(not under the project’sSavedfolder)
Lines from the Integration Kit start with Nwiro IK:. Adapter failures look like Nwiro IK: adapter failure adapter=<name> stage=<stage> code=<code>; the code is what to quote when asking for help.
Local LLM: “Adapter process exited” on every message
The chat answers nothing and the error says the adapter exited with code 0 while your request was pending, and Restart Adapter does not change it. This affected older plugin builds on macOS with Unreal 5.6 or older: the engine starts adapters with a non-blocking input pipe and the adapter treats that as end of input. Unreal 5.7 and 5.8 are not affected. Current plugin builds start adapters with a blocking input pipe; update the Integration Kit from Fab. If the error persists after updating, contact support with the editor log.
Local LLM: “The local model backend returned an unexpected error”
With LM Studio or Bionic serving a GGUF model, every message failed because one advertised tool schema used a JSON-Schema feature the backend’s engine rejects. This is fixed in the plugin: update the Integration Kit to the latest version. MLX models were never affected.
Local LLM: “endpoint unreachable” although the server is running
Check the Endpoint URL. It must start with http:// or https:// and normally ends in /v1 (for example http://localhost:1234/v1). An endpoint typed without the scheme is reported by the adapter as unreachable.
Port 5353 is in use
Change the port from Settings → MCP Port, Apply. The bundled CLIs get updated automatically.
Biome Generator (Pro)
Environment missing meshes
- Project doesn’t have a matching mesh. Add one, or ask the agent “use different trees”.
- Mesh exists but name is too generic (
Mesh_001). Rename toSM_Pine_01and regenerate. - Ask “swap the missing meshes with new ones”; the agent scans and re-binds.
See Asset Naming for details.
”Place in Scene” button does nothing
- Plugin loaded (panel shouldn’t be stuck on a spinner).
- Check Output Log for
LogNwiroPCGerrors. - Restart editor and retry.
Generator says “no matching meshes”
- Too-generic names; see Asset Naming.
- Content Browser cache is stale. Right-click the foliage folder and Refresh.
- No matching biome in your library. Use the demo pack.
Meshy / Tripo
Tasks don’t appear
- API key not entered. Settings → Extensions, paste and Save.
- Free-tier account on the provider; their APIs require a paid tier.
- Provider is out of credits on their side. Check at meshy.ai / platform.tripo3d.ai.
Download failed / link expired
Meshy and Tripo results have time-limited URLs. If you try to import an old task whose link expired, the import will fail. Re-run the task or use the provider’s UI to regenerate the download link.
Demo Assets (Pro)
Download hangs / fails
The Stylescape HD pack is ~5 GB.
- Check connection.
- Cancel and retry; the download is resumable.
- Whitelist
%APPDATA%/Nwiro/in your antivirus if extraction is blocked.
Imported but materials are broken
Enable Virtual Texturing and Anisotropic Filtering in Project Settings → Rendering. Stylescape materials expect them.
Biome Generator still says “no matching meshes” after install
- Close editor, reopen.
- Check Output Log for
LogNwiroContentPipelinesuccess lines. - Right-click
/Game/StylescapeHD/in Content Browser → Refresh.
Installation
Plugin doesn’t appear under Edit → Plugins
- Folder name must be exactly
NwiroorNwiroIntegrationKit. .upluginfile must be at root of that folder.EngineVersionin.upluginmatches your editor (5.5 / 5.6 / 5.7).- Windows MAX_PATH: move the project closer to drive root if you’re hitting path-length limits.
”Plugin failed to load” on startup
- Pro: Web Browser + PCG Framework + Python Editor Script Plugin all enabled.
- IK: Web Browser enabled.
- Re-enable any missing dependency and restart.
Toolbar icon is missing
- Plugin is Enabled in Plugins window.
- Restart editor; some toolbar icons only bind after a full relaunch.
Agent behavior
Agent keeps asking for permission on every edit
Switch to Accept Edits mode from the footer. You keep the permission prompt for destructive actions (delete, rename) but skip it for edit operations.
Agent plans but never executes
Check the mode picker; you’re probably in Plan Mode. Switch to Default.
Cost is higher than expected
- Using Opus for routine edits. Switch to Sonnet or Haiku.
- Very long chat history. The whole thread is re-sent each turn. Start a fresh chat.
- The task is genuinely big (batch blueprint edits). Unavoidable.
Agent picked the wrong tool
Just tell it:
Use
edit_blueprintinstead of making a new one.
That approach is clumsy. Try
find_assetsfirst, then iterate.
It’ll adjust.
